Five of My Favorite Things – A Writing Exercise in Reflection, Noticing, and Just Plain Fun

February 28, 2018

1. I love British television!

I recently started watching The Crown, my new favorite show. I may be a late start, but I’m a convert. I love everything about this show – the cinematography – picture shots of stone castles in the midst of deep London fog, rich characters from real life, history amidst royalty, I’m loving it all.

An odd side note about British television, sitcoms particularly, they choose middle aged women who look like middle aged women to play those parts. As a 50-some old woman I appreciate this. My favorite British actress of a certain age – Dame Judy Dench.

Some Thoughts on Our Hearts

February 7, 2018

Hearts hold a special affection for me. It began when I was in a Old Testament Bible Study of I and II Kings, it was there I noticed God cares about hearts. Deeply.

“Man looks at the outward appearance;

the Lord looks at the heart.” I Sam 16:7

What Does Your Faith Walk Look Like To Others?

January 25, 2018

I knew a woman of great faith. You probably know one or two, as well.

If you were to knock on her front door, I know she’d greet you warmly. She’d invite you right in and put on the tea kettle in the kitchen, while pulling out the fine bone china teapot with the yellow floral pattern to prepare her finest Earl Grey tea for you. [Read more…]

My Word for 2018 – Surrender.

January 10, 2018

I chose a word for 2018. Actually, the word chose me. It’s come to me in a number of ways; none of them of my choosing.

It makes me uncomfortable. Squirmy. Desperate to get away.

My word is surrender. [Read more…]

Whatever matters most to you. Whatever you feel would enrich your life most. The good stuff.

Have you noticed that resolutions often involve dieting, or, what I would call some type of abstinence? A going without mentality. In the case of dieting – going without cookies, and fat, and sugars, and adding in often a list of foods you don’t much like.

Why not approach resolutions more as life additions, rather than subtractions? Putting the good stuff back in our lives.

Don’t we all want more of the good stuff? [Read more…]

I live on an island, in the country. A sweet combination. I spend way too much time sitting on a ferry to get to the mainland and my people, thinking about how I should be weeding and pruning our 5 acres, or driving down country roads taking pictures. Nature grabs me – taking pictures delights me. I love to capture nature’s messiness – the wild wonder, the abundant extravagance of blurred green and blue landscapes. I write for similar reasons – to capture small glimpses of the wonders of God, to hold up God’s Word and see the beauty of His holiness. Small snapshots of His glory. I’m so glad you’re here.
