Five of My Favorite Things – A Writing Exercise in Reflection, Noticing, and Just Plain Fun

February 28, 2018

1. I love British television!

I recently started watching The Crown, my new favorite show. I may be a late start, but I’m a convert. I love everything about this show – the cinematography – picture shots of stone castles in the midst of deep London fog, rich characters from real life, history amidst royalty, I’m loving it all.

An odd side note about British television, sitcoms particularly, they choose middle aged women who look like middle aged women to play those parts. As a 50-some old woman I appreciate this. My favorite British actress of a certain age – Dame Judy Dench.

Reflections on 2016 – The Year of Big Events

December 2, 2016

**I’m tucking in an extra post this week because it’s time for Emily P. Freeman’s ‘What We’ve Learned’ link up. You might enjoy taking a look here.

This year was marked by Big Events for our family, so I’m starting with a review and, then, what it’s meant to me. These have been life changers – they’ve made seismic shifts in the terrain of our family life.

I’ll start with The Big Event – probably better named ‘The Blessed Event‘. This past July my eldest daughter married the love of her life, Sean. It was a once in a lifetime day, as I’m sure many of you’ve experienced, and it not only blessed our family, it altered us, somehow.

Most obvious, our daughter-filled family now has a son. We’ve added testosterone, much humor and wit, along with a generous spirit. Not a bad addition. [Read more…]

Footprints of Summer

August 15, 2016

Carbon footprints are a measure of the amount of environmental impact a person leaves in their wake. This summer I am aware of another kind of footprint – more of a heartprint – moments that make us, change us, somehow alter and impact the landscape of our lives.

Today, I’d like to share some footprints, or moments, from my summer – memorable, meaningful, and life-changing. Be blessed! [Read more…]

Five Things I’ve Learned Living on an Island

August 3, 2016

**Summer has sweet ways to refresh our souls. So, this week’s blog I’m sharing some summer thoughts from a post I wrote last August – on island life. I hope this post refreshes you and reminds you of long, hot summer days, the feel of sand between your toes and salty breezes blowing through your hair – carefree days that are less about doing and all about being. God bless your summer days, friend!

I am a newbie island girl.

For the past four years my husband and I have lived life on a long, thin island, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, ever a ferry ride away from “the mainland”. [Read more…]

I live on an island, in the country. A sweet combination. I spend way too much time sitting on a ferry to get to the mainland and my people, thinking about how I should be weeding and pruning our 5 acres, or driving down country roads taking pictures. Nature grabs me – taking pictures delights me. I love to capture nature’s messiness – the wild wonder, the abundant extravagance of blurred green and blue landscapes. I write for similar reasons – to capture small glimpses of the wonders of God, to hold up God’s Word and see the beauty of His holiness. Small snapshots of His glory. I’m so glad you’re here.
