On Being Tender-Hearted

May 6, 2020

My children were toddlers, about 3 and 5 years old, when I had them memorize five important words – ‘Be kind to one another’.

“Be kind and tender-hearted to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”  – Ephesians 4:32

I’d be lying if I told you my goal was Scripture memory. Let me be clear, my goal was behavior management, and it didn’t work. [Read more…]

How is Your Journey Reforming You?

February 11, 2020

“Remember your journey…that you may know the righteous acts of the Lord.”

Micah 6:5

This is the path we’re following today – remembering – looking back at God’s work in us on our life’s journey –remembering we’re not alone. Even in our apparent wanderings, our aimless steps, our missteps and dead ends – God is forming us. There is a purpose, there is a plan, and there is the mighty hand of God using all that happens on our journey for good. [Read more…]

Beware of Entertaining the Enemy with Just a Thought

January 23, 2020

There are some places we just shouldn’t go – it’s too dangerous.

I remember a visit I made to New York City, I spent my days walking and seeing sights in Manhattan, while my friend worked. I had a map – hand held, paper made, in the dinosaur years before cell phones – but, still, I was lost. I knew which direction I needed to go, but I wasn’t quite sure of my location. [Read more…]

Do You Have an Inkling of a Small Step or Move You’re Being Called to in the New Year?

January 3, 2020

We’re looking at small faith steps on the blog today because the New Year often signals a fork in the road – a pivot point where we reflect and evaluate and make small tweaks and directional changes to improve our lives.

This need for movement happens in my faith, as well. I picture my faith as a walk and walking requires I move. Step forward. It won’t work standing still.

My favorite story of a move of faith – literally, one step that changed history is Moses standing before the Red Sea. It is a sweet example of the call of faith. The call to ‘Move!’. [Read more…]

The Mystery That Moves a Grumbly Heart To Become a Grateful Heart

November 5, 2019

I love the word ‘grumbly’.

It conjures up many images, first off for me, the character of Pooh, in Winnie the Pooh, who was ‘so very rumbly in his tumbly‘.  Pooh’s tummy was ever hungry – always grumbling in the background – expressing that gnawing want and need to be fed.

Pooh’s tummy is so like my heart – a bit grumbly – always wanting more. Never quite satisfied. [Read more…]

I live on an island, in the country. A sweet combination. I spend way too much time sitting on a ferry to get to the mainland and my people, thinking about how I should be weeding and pruning our 5 acres, or driving down country roads taking pictures. Nature grabs me – taking pictures delights me. I love to capture nature’s messiness – the wild wonder, the abundant extravagance of blurred green and blue landscapes. I write for similar reasons – to capture small glimpses of the wonders of God, to hold up God’s Word and see the beauty of His holiness. Small snapshots of His glory. I’m so glad you’re here. (for a wee bit more about me. read here)
