Holding It Together – An Urban Myth

July 29, 2020

Where in your life are you trying to hold it together?

You know the struggles you’re facing – the places you are having a hard time bearing up, keeping life going.

In my household when things are happening – things that cause my gut to churn, my teeth to clench, my mind to whirl and if I’m with my hubby talking through the stress – the whatever, that is threatening our peaceful life balance – I’ll often look down. Down at my hubby’s hands, and often his hands are tightly clenched – into white knuckled fists – ready to fight. [Read more…]

Act With Courage In The Struggle You’re Facing Today – Even If You Don’t Feel Courageous

July 24, 2019

Life is not for wimps.

Life is hard – there are no turn-offs to ‘The Easy Life’.

Yet, somehow I am repeatedly surprised when I wake up to face yet another fear – or challenge – or trouble that I hadn’t expected.

I want to believe I’ve graduated from troubles. Moved on. I’ve grown up into ‘I-can-do-this’ land; a fearless land For Adults Only. But, it’s just not true. I still have much to face.

‘Courage, dear heart.’

C.S. Lewis spoke these words, and I find, I too, must speak courage to my heart. [Read more…]

What Do You Need Deliverance From and What Does It Look Like?

October 25, 2017

We each have some thing – some place in our lives we want help – we need help. We want deliverance.

You know what specific area you want deliverance in. For me, I struggle with a chronic health condition and I want healing. I’ve experienced a great deal of healing, but I’d like more. I want:

  • less hardships – more healing.
  • less problems – more peace.
  • less pain – more purpose.
  • less luggage – more life

What I’ve discovered about deliverance – in my case for healing – it doesn’t always look like what I expect. [Read more…]

A Whale of Troubles. What’s Eating You Alive?

June 14, 2017

I live on an island and I ride in a ferry to get to the mainland. Sometimes my car is loaded into the center of the ferry – I call it ‘the bowels of the boat’. It is a cavernous, windowless space except for the wide openings on either end, and riding here, in the belly of the boat, I think of Jonah and what it must have felt like. One thing’s for certain – sitting in the dark, damp, fishy smelling inside of a whale changes one’s perspective.

I live on an island, in the country. A sweet combination. I spend way too much time sitting on a ferry to get to the mainland and my people, thinking about how I should be weeding and pruning our 5 acres, or driving down country roads taking pictures. Nature grabs me – taking pictures delights me. I love to capture nature’s messiness – the wild wonder, the abundant extravagance of blurred green and blue landscapes. I write for similar reasons – to capture small glimpses of the wonders of God, to hold up God’s Word and see the beauty of His holiness. Small snapshots of His glory. I’m so glad you’re here.
