The Lord Will Bring Us Back – A Prayer for Returning

January 1, 2021

It’s a new day.

2020 is behind us and aren’t we ready to step forward onto new ground? I’m longing for a return to something – many people are calling it ‘a return to normal’ – but, truly, I’m longing for something more.

This past week my daughter came home from her Midwest home where she attends graduate school for a much needed family time. It felt almost like a family huddle – we drew near – we sat close….ahhhh (I did wear my mask and we each did a 2 week quarantine prior) – it was much needed time after the past several months for our family.

The day of her arrival I couldn’t eat breakfast, I lost my appetite in my excitement. Then, I left for the ferry in my house slippers and didn’t notice until I was part way to the mainland, and it was too late to change! Her coming home entirely discombobulated me. [Read more…]

Let the Lord Become Your Song This Season

November 18, 2020

True fact – I have a tough time giving thanks during Thanksgiving and Christmas season.

I get a sense I’m not alone in this – particularly in this unprecedented year of 2020, with all the loss and isolation and divisions that have marked the year .

I know if you and I look at our circumstances, most particularly, the new holiday restrictions, lock-downs, stay-at-home orders, pandemic fears, family worries and losses, our natural responses probably tend to be far from thankful. [Read more…]

Choose Life – Even When Facing the Diagnosis

October 1, 2020

You may have noticed it’s been a bit quiet in this corner of the world. It’s true. I’m one of those people who when facing life’s hardest stuff – I get quiet – I don’t move, perhaps if I stop it will somehow go away?

I’ll be honest, I’ve wrestled with whether to share this as I’m a deeply private person. Getting personal has been a repeated struggle for me in writing.  I think that’s why my words kinda stopped this month, because I wasn’t ready to be real and I must. So, here goes…. [Read more…]

Holding It Together – An Urban Myth

July 29, 2020

Where in your life are you trying to hold it together?

You know the struggles you’re facing – the places you are having a hard time bearing up, keeping life going.

In my household when things are happening – things that cause my gut to churn, my teeth to clench, my mind to whirl and if I’m with my hubby talking through the stress – the whatever, that is threatening our peaceful life balance – I’ll often look down. Down at my hubby’s hands, and often his hands are tightly clenched – into white knuckled fists – ready to fight. [Read more…]

The Road Marked Remembrance

June 19, 2020

If there is anything the COVID-19 has given me, it’s been time. Its been altered – set down into a new place – life is not the same.

Having more time carries a huge weight of responsibility with it. I’ve been experiencing a load of guilt as I observe my neighbor take down a good acre of 60 foot alder trees and re-landscape his entire yard into a green grassy acre with mounded garden beds of lush flowerbeds, and even a waterfall feature, while the weeds in our garden are growing to unprecedented heights. I have more time, but what am I doing with it? [Read more…]

I live on an island, in the country. A sweet combination. I spend way too much time sitting on a ferry to get to the mainland and my people, thinking about how I should be weeding and pruning our 5 acres, or driving down country roads taking pictures. Nature grabs me – taking pictures delights me. I love to capture nature’s messiness – the wild wonder, the abundant extravagance of blurred green and blue landscapes. I write for similar reasons – to capture small glimpses of the wonders of God, to hold up God’s Word and see the beauty of His holiness. Small snapshots of His glory. I’m so glad you’re here.
