Four Things I’m Learning about Myself in My Here & Now Spaces

July 19, 2018

I feel like I’m in a middle season of life and it hasn’t been what I’d expected.

I would have guessed this season would be like a quiet, still pond and I’d see myself clearly as I stared into the water’s reflections. Instead, I’ve felt like I am standing barefoot at the water’s edge with a rugged tide rolling in, causing the sand to shift and pull out from underneath me. Not. What. I. Expected.

C.S. Lewis say it best for me….‘Courage, dear heart’.

Learning requires great frustration. So, I guess I’m frustrated. Or learning. Or, just confused. [Read more…]

Accept Your Weariness. Really?

April 18, 2018

‘Accept yourself in your weariness’.

I read these words this morning, well more like, I drank them in. Thirsty for their truth. Thirsty to be relieved of my burden for ‘do better’ – ‘do more’ – ‘get going’.

The small voice in my head often tells me: “Do it, Sandra!”

Yes, I’m a doer. [Read more…]

Resolution. Acting on Whatever Matters Most to You.

December 31, 2017

Tis the season to make resolutions.

Whatever matters most to you. Whatever you feel would enrich your life most. The good stuff.

Have you noticed that resolutions often involve dieting, or, what I would call some type of abstinence? A going without mentality. In the case of dieting – going without cookies, and fat, and sugars, and adding in often a list of foods you don’t much like.

Why not approach resolutions more as life additions, rather than subtractions? Putting the good stuff back in our lives.

Don’t we all want more of the good stuff? [Read more…]

Take a Pause & Nurture Your Soul Today

October 18, 2017

What has caused you to pause lately?

Has anything stopped you in your tracks and caused you to reevaluate or regroup as you attempt to recover from a potential ‘hit’?

Let me give a personal example – my own health crisis.

For me, this was a life stopper. I had to quit my job – I had to move – I lost much of my normal function and ability to carry out the normal activities of daily living. [Read more…]

How Do I View Others – Looking Up – Looking Down – Or, Eye to Eye?

October 4, 2017

I am a tall woman, a full 5’10” to be exact. Life looks kind of different from up here.

Truly, your perspective on life is altered based on whether you look people eye to eye, or peer down at them from tall and lofty heights, or look at people from down below.

Height was not a physical attribute I delighted in growing up. When you’re the tallest person in your class in jr. high and high school, boy or girl, my height made me feel uncomfortable. Gawky. Which wasn’t helped by my excessively thin arms and legs. I might be the only person who lied and added weight for a high school sports team roster. [Read more…]

I live on an island, in the country. A sweet combination. I spend way too much time sitting on a ferry to get to the mainland and my people, thinking about how I should be weeding and pruning our 5 acres, or driving down country roads taking pictures. Nature grabs me – taking pictures delights me. I love to capture nature’s messiness – the wild wonder, the abundant extravagance of blurred green and blue landscapes. I write for similar reasons – to capture small glimpses of the wonders of God, to hold up God’s Word and see the beauty of His holiness. Small snapshots of His glory. I’m so glad you’re here. (for a wee bit more about me. read here)
