The Word – A Seed for Prayer

March 24, 2025

“…Scripture without prayer has no soul; prayer without Scripture has no substance.”

– Eugene Peterson

I’m coming to agree with Eugene Peterson, perhaps we cannot disentangle prayer from God’s Word, there is a twining together, as God embodies His Word.

Scripture becomes the seeds for my prayers. “The seed is the Word of God.” (Luke 8: 11)

The Lord Will Bring Us Back – A Prayer for Returning

January 1, 2021

It’s a new day.

2020 is behind us and aren’t we ready to step forward onto new ground? I’m longing for a return to something – many people are calling it ‘a return to normal’ – but, truly, I’m longing for something more.

This past week my daughter came home from her Midwest home where she attends graduate school for a much needed family time. It felt almost like a family huddle – we drew near – we sat close….ahhhh (I did wear my mask and we each did a 2 week quarantine prior) – it was much needed time after the past several months for our family.

The day of her arrival I couldn’t eat breakfast, I lost my appetite in my excitement. Then, I left for the ferry in my house slippers and didn’t notice until I was part way to the mainland, and it was too late to change! Her coming home entirely discombobulated me. [Read more…]

Start Your Fall Right with The Famous Prayer of Humble Blessing

September 6, 2017

Fall has begun and as you and I fall into our routines, our new schedules, our pace quickens and sometimes our hearts and minds accelerate, too. Several years ago, one of my daughters was experiencing a “lull” – an in-between time.

She’d taken a much-needed break from the four-year college routine and was working full-time. For her, it was a good choice – she was experiencing work life – and taking time to re-motivate for school.

Have you ever been in a lull? Not always the easiest place to be.

I live on an island, in the country. A sweet combination. I spend way too much time sitting on a ferry to get to the mainland and my people, thinking about how I should be weeding and pruning our 5 acres, or driving down country roads taking pictures. Nature grabs me – taking pictures delights me. I love to capture nature’s messiness – the wild wonder, the abundant extravagance of blurred green and blue landscapes. I write for similar reasons – to capture small glimpses of the wonders of God, to hold up God’s Word and see the beauty of His holiness. Small snapshots of His glory. I’m so glad you’re here.
