Sometimes I feel invisible – like I am not making any splashes in the world around me – like I am not making a difference. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Each day my attention is caught by the movement of the branches in the bushes outside my kitchen window. I can’t help but notice the bushes shaking, even as I am washing dishes in the sink, my peripheral vision is drawn to the movement outside.
I expect a big animal, perhaps a deer or raccoon to poke its head out of those bushes, and I am surprised each day when it’s only a small chickadee or robin that has caused the violent shakes. Such a tiny bird to produce such noticeable movements. I’m amazed.
So, too, the actions you and I take in life are noticeable.
Others are drawn to the movement – the small flickers and shakes in the environment surrounding us.
Our prayers are noticed.
When we tell those we love ‘I prayed for you today’ – that shakes the branches in the lives of that loved one. They notice. They notice the after effects – the answers – the unexplained peace. It’s an earth mover and shaker.
Our acts of love, too, are noticed.
They reverberate in the hearts and lives of those we love, like a rock hitting a quiet pool of water – the splash is followed by the small echoes of tiny circular waves sent out by the movement.
Our love is felt – for generations.
No small thing. Love lasts. God multiplies our small acts of love done for Him.
“But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.”
God’s design from the beginning of time – making the good things last, and count big.
Just like the tiny birds that shake up the bushes outside my window, capturing my attention – so, too, your acts and my acts are felt – are seen – are witnessed by those in your midst.
Count on it. Believe it. Pray for it.
Watch God’s hand move. Watch the shake up occur as you quietly lift your loved one in prayer. See it happen. Witness God’s truth enacted. The mystery occurs time and time again.
It matters. Our small acts. Our one small prayer. Our presence is felt.
Know you shake up the world a little where you are.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
**Lord, Your Presence brings life. We invite You to come in, to our lives, to the lives of our loved ones. Give us eyes to see Your movements in our lives.
