What are the traits you find most attractive?
Niceness? Humor? Physical attractiveness, sexiness, is probably near the top of most peoples’ lists.
For most of us, sexiness would be on an attractive trait list. What does the word ‘sexy’ bring to mind?
Perfectly formed and toned physiques. Barbie figures. Ken doll look a likes. Do you think of Kate Middleton and her Prince, William? Sexy, attractive. Usually, youthful. Often, wealthy. But, always, physically beautiful.
I believe, faithfulness, though not so sexy a virtue, should be on the top 3 list for character traits worth talking about. Highly attractive. Ask anyone who has experienced cheating and they would agree faithfulness is a must.
One of the most spoken of traits of God in the Bible is faithfulness.
A biggee in the God nature. Unbelievable when we consider who God ‘chooses’ to love. Us! Weak and fault filled, bad mouthed, ungrateful – often, unfaithful. Truly, we are not so attractive a bunch in terms of being the ‘Beloved’ of God Himself.
Yet, God has chosen us, called us, named us His Bride, His treasured possession, His Beloved.
And, as His Beloved He has made us promises, similar to the covenants, or promises made in marriage. God has promised us His faithfulness. His love, forever.
“Though the mountains be shaken….yet my unfailing love will not be shaken.”
– Isaiah 54:10
“The Lord Himself goes with you and will be with you. He will never leave you or forsake you”.
– Deuteronomy 31:8
Faithfulness. Love standing firm. Unmovable. Never leaving. Unfailing. Never forsaking.
Love and faithfulness walk hand in hand, twined together. This day, let us remember God’s faithfulness. His love that lasts. Endures. Unshakable. Forever faithful.
God’s love stands firm.
***Recently, I have been watching a dear friend care for her ailing mother, a beautiful picture of love and faithfulness. I, too, have been blessed by the faithfulness of my husband, Tom who has stood by me through the unspeakable losses of an unexplained illness. Other friends and family have done likewise. I didn’t understand faithfulness and its beauty until this experience. Light shines brightest in the darkness. Truth radiated. Faithful love is a rare treasure, reflecting God’s nature – sweet, pure and light (and to some of us, even sexy!).
